When training for a race, I’ve been told over and over that its important to stick to a plan. However, many experienced runners say as long as you do all your long runs you will be ok. My Dad? When I asked him for advice on training for a marathon he said, “I just ran. But I think at some point I did do 20 miles.” Thanks Dad.
I am loosely following the About.com’s Beginner Marathon Training Schedule. With changes made depending on my schedule that week and races. One things for sure-I am getting all of my long runs in. For cross training I am mainly sticking to spin classes or biking outside and hope to fit in strength training once a week. The main thing is making it work for my schedule. I am constantly on the go and running has to be a top priority. So far it is working well!
